Loving kindness meditation – metta meditation is a great way to cultivate our propensity for kindness. It involves mentally sending goodwill, kindness, and warmth towards others by silently repeating a series of mantras.
Loving Kindness Meditation
Loving Kindness Meditation was effective for self-critical individuals in reducing self-criticism and depressive symptoms, and improving self-compassion and positive emotions.
The goal of the practice is the loving acceptance of oneself and others. It may combat prejudice. It may led to increased feelings of social connection.
Metta Meditation comes to us from an ancient Indian language called Pali, and it translates as loving kindness, benevolence, active good will – etc. Normally, when we think about meditation we imagine sitting in silence and focusing on something pretty neutral like the breath or physical sensations.
Metta meditation decreases negative emotions, increases positive emotions, quiets the inner critic, strengthens empathy & increases compassion, enhances social and nature connectedness, decreases migraine pain and tension, decreases chronic pain.
Loving Kindness Meditation-Metta Meditation
Loving kindness meditation is a type of meditation that aims to cultivate unconditional kind attitudes toward oneself and others. The core psychological operation is to keep generating one’s kind intentions toward recipients. Generally, practitioners silently repeat some phrases, such as “may you be happy” or “may you be free from suffering” toward targets. In some traditions, they also visualize the mental image of the targets or light from one’s heart toward others to help the generation of intentions
